How to prevent acid reflux/heartburn

When acid from the stomach goes up to the throat, it is called an acid reflux. This can cause heartburns or coughs. It is more common when you are lying down or slouching on the sofa. It is also more common after a meal.

Here are some ways on how you can prevent an acid reflux :

  • Avoid eating or drinking two hour before bedtime
  • Take small and less oily meals
  • When lying down, raise the level of your head about 4 inches higher using an extra pillow
  • Take an antacid (chewable tablets/suspension) to reduce the acid reflux 4 - 6 times a day.
