5 ways to cope with fussy eaters
I’ve had my fair share of angst as far as mealtimes are concerned. My kid is constantly on the move, even when he eats. He used to spit everything out whenever he suspects that there’s something in it that he doesnt like. Through trial and error, and lots of it, i’ve somehow managed to get him to eat with the rest of us with less fuss. Here are 5 ways where you can try if your child is a fussy eater.
1. Get your child involved with meal planning, food shopping and food preparation. By getting your children to be more hands on they are more likely to want to eat the final product eagerly.
2. NO TV!!! Turn it off and ditch the lap trays. Iinstead, make eating a fun and social family event by gathering everyone around a dinning table for a good old fashioned catch up.
3. Stop constant snacking on sugary and fatty foods like cookies and ice-creams. Provide regular healthy snacks between meals to keep blood sugar balanced (fruit, raw vegetables) and stick to regular meal routines.
4. Having trouble with getting your children to eat healthy foods? Then try a bit of hide and seek, for instance add mashed butter beans to mashed potato to increase fibre, add 1 teaspoon of flax oil to fruit yoghurt to top up omega-3 oils or blend lots of vegetables into soups or sauces.
5. Introduce new foods one at a time, children do not like a plateful of completely new foods that they don’t recognise
