Alcohol destroys important nutrients, leading to vitamin deficiencies and mineral imbalances. There is particularly a shortage created in Vitamin B1 (thiamine) and nicotinic acid (niacin). In addition, autopsies reveal that the brain of the alcoholic becomes dehydrated and functionally impaired. Alcohol slows down reflex actions, perception, judgment, and speech.
