What you want to know about flaxseed

Flaxseed oil contains a substance known as alpha linolenic acid, an important omega 3 fatty acid that is not produced by our body. Therefore, we must get it from our diet. Recent studies have shown that flaxseed oil helps reduce cholesterol levels. Subjects with extremely high cholesterol were given ground flaxseed for 6 weeks and they had their bad cholesterol (LDL) lowered by 14.7%.  A point to note here is to buy refrigerated flaxseed oil as it is quite unstable. Do include flaxseed in your baking, but be sure to crush them first as whole flaxseeds are not digestible.
