Healthy Cooking

Cooking is an activity which can be fun, but can also be a hassle. The last thing you want to do after a hard day at work is to come home and prepare a meal, let alone ensuring it is healthy and balanced. Having said that, it is imperative that overall you maintain a healthy and balanced diet for overall well being. If this sounds like a problem for you, fear not - in this article we will aim to show you some of the easiest ways to cook and prepare healthy food by cutting out key ingredients that cause dietary problems, and give you some ideas of how you can have a healthier diet.

Firstly you need to look at when you prepare food and what you prepare. Exactly what kind of thing do you like to cook, and is it at all healthy? You might be surprised to find out that you’re probably eating more than a portion at meal times, which can be a cause of weight gain and other associated problems. Your first step should be to cut down the amount you eat, regardless of the type of food it happens to be, to cut down your overall intake of calories and fats.

How do you cook your food? Do you fry or do you grill? Do you use oils and fats? These are all questions which can affect how healthy a meal is. Avoid using high calorie fats and oils in your meal preparations as these are very unhealthy ingredients. Grill or roast meat rather than frying it. Frying might be a quick fix, but it is a particularly unhealthy way to prepare foods. If you have to fry, cook with a little sunflower oil, or some of the low calorie sprays which are on the market. Alternatively, try a small amount of low fat margarine instead of the oil as a replacement, healthy option.

However you like to cook, it’s just a case of stopping and thinking about it. Is what you’re doing healthy? Most of the time, you will be able to make the smallest of changes which won’t even affect the flavor, but will have a profound impact on the overall nutritional quality of your food. Using fresh and healthy ingredients and simply eating less are other great ways of making sure your cooking is healthier and more advantageous all round.
