Resveratrol

A study published in the 2004 year-end edition of the American Journal of Physiology said that resveratrol, a compound found in grapes, inhibits the formation of a protein that produces a condition called cardio fibrosis, which reduces the heart’s pumping efficiency when it is needed most in times of stress.

More evidence suggests that wine dilates small blood vessels and helps prevent angina and clotting. The alcohol in wine additionally helps balance cholesterol levels. But dont take this as a reason to drink a lot of wine. Moderation is the key. A glass or two during dinner is a good idea.

Despite resveratrol being a potent substance in vitro, it has almost 0 in vivo bioavailablity. Hope they can change the molecule for better absorption (without metabolites)

Great! More evidence that a small glass of red wine every now and again makes good sense in the middle of a healthy lifestyle.

Resveratrol is similar to Quercetin, another polyphenol that’s commonly found in olive oil (mmm, olive oil). Both have antioxidant properties, and appear to help the body fight against heart disease and even cancer…..
