Can i drink coffee if i’m breastfeeding baby?

Coffee is a common beverage for most women. But if too much is consumed, the caffeine may cause irritability and sleeplessness in the infant. Moderate consumption, say one to two cups a day, usually produces no effect. As a mother, i believe it is our responsibility to ensure that baby receives the best care.

So, in my opinion, it’s best to avoid coffee altogether when you are breastfeeding baby. Caffeine is a drug and most drugs are excreted in breast milk. So, doesnt it make sense to stop drinking coffee when you are breastfeeding your precious bundle. I know you can do it. Take a good look at baby, and ditch the coffee.

How to wean baby off

Trying to get my 20 month old baby to eat can be such a nightmare. He just wouldnt open his mouth for me to spoon food inside. Al he wants is breastmilk, breastmilk and more breastmilk. When is he ever gona wean off me. I’m getting very tired of all this breastfeeding thingy, especially i have so much to do during the night and all he wants to do is tag onto me.

I cant really do much. just wish that hubby can be cooperative enough to sleep with his for two whole weeks. My friends told me most baby wean off in two weeks time. I’ll have a word with hubby and see if he’s willing to help or not. If not, all of us will suffer at the end of the day.

Doest teething hurt?

Teething must hurt a lot as my 17 month old refuses to eat. Not even a tiny bite. I tried making him different foods for his meal but he still refuse to eat. He only wants to nurse and nurse and nurse. I really dont have the time to stay in bed with him all day long. I ordered another two cans of Milkmaid tea to boost my milk production again as i’ve been busy and not getting enough rest. Milk production dwindles when one is tired. No amount of food nor fluid intake will help with the production unless one gets more rest.

Home treatment for mastitis

Every breastfeeding mom will cringe at this word. It’s blocked milk duct. And it will get inflamed, swells and hurts very much. If not treated, may lead to abscesess that requires surgical procedure to drain out. Mine is on the right side of my right breast, near the armpit. I suspect it was caused when my baby knocked onto it in his sleep when he wants to nurse at night, which is often the case.

I ran a low fever due to this yesterday noon. The affected area is red with mild swelling. My nipple even has a tiny whitened spot on the tip. It’s damn painful when baby nurses. The most effective way to clear a blocked duct is to let baby nurse on it as much as possible. Abrupt weaning will worsen the condition and is not advisable.

I usually treat the affected area with a hot compress to help open up the blocked ducts and passageways. I pour hot water into a milk bottle, wrap it up in a nappy cloth and apply the heat slowly to my breast. Remember to wrap it up or it’ll burn your skin. It’s worked for me every time.

Though slow, sure beats paying a visit to the doctor’s. But if the condition worsens or shows no signs of improvement after two or three days, common sense will tell you to go visit one for further treatment. Try at your own risk and dont hold me responsible, ya.

Organic Earth Mama Milkmaid Tea

I got the parcel this afternoon. I just steeped a huge cup and am drinking it now, lol. I hope it will somehow help boost my milk production. Malcolm still nurse at night, and he’ll get whiny and dont sleep well if he’s hungry. Therefore, in order to ensure that both Mama and baby get a good night’s sleep, this had better work.

It tastes herbal with a hint of maple. With so many organic herbs in this formulation, i bet apart from helping lactating moms boost their milk production, it has plenty of other health benefits too. I’m steeping the first round again for a lighter second cup. Will blog more on this later.
