How safe is Lasik?

Let me give one simple reason as to why i want to have Lasik done for both my eyes. I have a feeling my pair of glasses is giving my eyes an odd shape after wearing it for some time. It’s a pair of metal rimmed glasses and quite heavy by my standards. I used to wear rimless glasses but with kids around, they are far too fragile and breaks easily.

They are bigger now and i think it’s also time i reconsider Lasik as a solution to eyesight correction. I dont fancy contacts as they make my eyes dry. I cant wear glasses as i cant stand their weight. Lasik is still an option to me as far as my eyes are concerned. Anyone had Lasik here? How safe is Lasik? Care to share your experiences?

Eye infection

My eyes hurt now. I’m having some kinda eye infection but no idea what it is. It’s crusty when i get up in the morning and hurts when i try to open my eyes. I’m using eye drops to soften the crust. It’s swollen at the bottom and the whole eye is red too. I think my other will get it too if i’m not careful.

It may be conjunctivitis, i dont know. Just hope i dont give it to my kids. If conjunctivitis can make my eye feel so uncomfortable, i sure dont want my kids to suffer the same way i did. I’ll make a trip to the nearby pharmacy and ask the pharmacist if she has any treatment for eye infection or not. Hope my eye infection clears soon.

Top 7 Tips To Treat And Prevent Eyestrain

With apologies to moms everywhere, it is time to set the record straight. You won’t ruin your eyesight by reading in dim light. Eyestrain as the cause of vision problems is an old wives’ tale. Your eyes are designed to be used 24 hours a day. Still staring at computer for hours on end can tax your eye muscles and make your eyes water and sting. Unfortunately, your baby blues were not built to handle the visual bombardment delivered by these modern-day emitters. But technology should not take all the blame for eyestrain. You can get it from driving a car, from exposure to air pollution, and from reading all that fine print on pill bottles, car ads, and credit card statements. Here are some tips that you can consider to adopt to prevent further damage to your eye.

1. Exercise Your Eyes

To prevent eyestrain, it is recommended to do eye yoga. Move your eyes slowly and smoothly as far to the left as you can, then as far to the right as you can. Continue by looking up, then down, then at all four diagonals. Repeat the entire sequence three to five times, once or twice a day. You may feel a little pain at first. Stop if it is too much.

2. Get Illuminated

Adequate lighting is important to preventing eyestrain. But you also want to be sure that you have the right kind of lighting. Avoid high-intensity lamps. They cast shadows and cause glare. Opt for incandescent lamps instead. Put one on each side of you so that you get equal brightness with no shadows.

3. Have Your Eyes Examined

If you wear glasses and experience eyestrain, you may need a new prescription. You can easily overwork your eye muscles if your eyes need correction and don’t get it.

4. Read Right

Do not read when you are lying down especially on your side. When you are on your side, one eye is closer to the page than the other, so you get unequal focusing. Instead, hold the book parallel to your face. If your head is tipped forward, for example, the book should be tipped slightly back.

5. Orbit Your Orbs

Using your thumb or forefinger, gently press the bone surrounding each eye socket. Start at the upper inner corner of your eye and move along the top of the bone toward the outer corner of your eye. Then move along the bottom of the bone toward your nose. Press each point along the way for 10 to 20 seconds.

6. Take Time-Outs

Allow for a short break at least every ½ hour to give your eyes a well-deserved rest. You learn from experience how often you need to take a break. Just remember that the idea is to stop eyestrain before it starts.

7. Make Some Heat

A technique called cupping can ease eyestrain. First, rub your hands together to make them warm. Then gently press your palms against your closed eyes and hold them there for a while. You will find it very soothing.

Are tomatoes good for eye disorders?

Being a rich source of vitamin A, tomatoes are a dependable preventive against night blindness, short sightedness and other eye diseases caused by deficiency of the vitamins. Tomato leaves are useful in optic nerve and eye weakness. A small handful of the freshly plucked leaves should be covered with soft hot water for 15 minutes. Strain the water. This will form a good tonic for the eye and optic nerves when a teaspoonful of this water is taken before meals three times daily.

New lamp for my bedroom

The fluorescent lamp in my bedroom is getting dim and so i asked hubby to drive me to the lighting shop to get a new set. I want to switch mine from a single tube to one that can house two tubes this time. I need a brighter working environment so that my eyes dont tire easily of the strain. Moreover, i can take better pics without leaving the room with a brighter lamp.

Hubby says he prefers the new lamp to have a casing as it can diffuse the bright light and lessen the amount of UV to the environment which is better for health. I found what i was looking for behind a row of chandeliers at the lighting shop. Cost only Rm59 for the whole set complete with double fluorescent tubes. Have to wait for the electrician to come by tomorrow to install it for me.

Is Lasik right for me?

My baby is at that stage whereby he likes to grab at my reading glasses again. I had that with my first kid, and i’ve broken many glasses that way. It’s happening again. I seldom wear contacts these days, as they tend to dry up my eyes. Moreover, i had an infection two years back. That’s why i stayed off contacts whenever possible.

My friend, Kathy asked me why dont i consider Lasik. She can now drive without wearing her glasses. It’s not 20/20 vision, but definitely better than before. She knows how troublesome it can be with a baby that keeps yanking at my glasses all day long. She’s been through that before. Me, i’m still chicken to go under the knife. Let me sleep on it a tad longer, k.

Contact lens care

I’ve been wearing contact lenses for almost twenty years. I was fresh out of school and like all young girls, wanted to look better. Dont tell me one can look good in glasses. For once i’ll disagree with that. When i donned my very first pair of contact lenses, i felt liberated. Everything brightened up and look so clear. The world looked good. And most of all, i felt beautiful. Even my mom couldnt recognise me when i got home and everyone commented how different i looked.

Since that day, i’ve never worn another pair of glasses. My first pair of contacts were those that you wear until they start to get dry and stick to your eyes after a few months. You’ll have to discard it and buy a fresh new pair. That can be very costly in the long run. After that, comes i turned to monthly disposables. There was once my eyes got infected as i was working at my computer all day and night. It was then that my doctor told me to switch to daily contact lenses. He recommended that i try Focus contact lenses. I’ve been wearing Focus contact lenses for the past year or so, and i can say they’re really comfortable. Nothing beats a fresh pair of lenses every day.

Take eye time out

Working on your pc all day without resting your eyes may result in computer-induced eye strain problems such as dry eyes or difficulty in focusing. My eyes often get dry from too much constant staring at the monitor. I have to remind myself to take an eye break after i finish booking my Kissimmee vacation. Here are a few tips on how you can relax your eyes:

Lean back and close your eyes for several seconds to refocus and ease the strain. Also, blink enough to refresh your eyes. Do remember that each blink moistens the eyes and soothes tight eye muscles. If your eyes are dry, eye lubricant may offer some relief. But avoid eye drops that decrease redness as these are not meant for eye strain.

To increase your viewing comfort, adjust the brightness and contrast of your monitor’s screen to a level that’s comfortable to you. Too much glare can also make it difficult to see objects on the screen. Using a glare-reducing screen to minimise glare from overhead lighting and windows.
