Hair Loss In Women

Hair loss for women isn’t something you hear much about, but in reality there are several women of all ages suffering the emotional agony of hair loss.

Whether you’re 20 or 60, hair loss seems to begin suddenly and the panic and anxiety associated with it can be devastating. It is relatively acceptable for men to walk around with bald spots or even no hair, but for women, there’s no justice in it. It is not socially acceptable for women to have hair loss.

After the initial shock, you’re faced with, well, what am I going to do now?

Well, the first thing to do is educate yourself. There are lots of reasons why women can experience hair loss.

- Birth control pills can lead to hair loss in some women due to the hormonal changes that occur. It can happen when you’ve begun taking the pills or after you’ve stopped taking them.

- Women who have just had a baby can experience hair loss shortly after the birth or a few months later. This is because during pregnancy, estrogen levels increase and the normal shedding of hair does not necessarily take place until the hormones level out and then a mass shedding begins. This is temporary and should sort it self out on its own.

- Thyroid problems are one of the main causes of hair loss in women. If you have an under active or over active thyroid, women can experience hair loss. A check with you doctor can determine if that is the case and steps can be taken to address that problem.

- Diet can be a cause of hair loss. Whether you’re eating a high calorie diet that has few actual nutrients, or you’re literally starving your self over a long period of time, your body will be deficient in the nutrients it needs for proper body function. Hair loss in this case can be a symptom of other things going on with your body as well.

To maintain hair health it needs vitamins and minerals. Zinc and iron deficiencies have been linked to hair loss. Hair also needs protein, specifically, amino acids. There are lots of amino acids but the nine essential amino acids are crucial to hair growth. To help with hair growth, women can also supplement with herbs such as, rosemary, sage and saw palmetto.

There are effective over the counter hair growth products such as Minoxidil that jump start your hair growth while you’re correcting what is causing the hair loss. Hair loss can be devastating but finding the correct cause and treating it from the inside and out, one can have a full head of hair. Be patient, educated and determined to correct it.

Hubby may need hair transplants soon

Have you ever wondered if plucking white hair will cause more to grow in its place? I have a lot of white hair all over my head and used to pluck my white hair as they grow out. To me, this is faster than dyeing them, lol. But certainly not a permanent solution to white hair. I’ve asked my hairdresser this question many times over. He says if i continue to pluck white hairs over and over again, especially at the same place, it may cause permanent balding. This is also known as traction alopecia.

I may not notice it at first, but sooner or later, hair will stop growing and leave a permanent bald patch where they once were. If that’s the case, i may have to resort to hair transplants to cover the bald patch up one day. I’ve been to hair transplants centers before and they do the job pretty well. Hair transplant cost is rather high as far as i know. I personally feel that if hair transplant surgery can cover up bald patches well, i’d still go for it. I may have a headful of hair now, but who knows. Twenty thirty years down the road, and at the rate they drop off, i may end up with barely enough to keep my head warm, lol.

One thing to note is white hair is more of a genetic cause more than anything else. Some say it’s due to stress. But as far as i know, it’s more due to lack a certain nutrients and genetic factors that contributes to the white hair and also balding. Hubby’s hair loss rate faster than me. Does that mean he needs hair transplants later on. Well, if we have the money, i’d ask him to go for celebrity hair transplants. Nothing beats having a head full of hair to make you look young. If you need more information on hair transplants, feel free to check out the rest of the articles here.

Vitamin to prevent white hair

If ever there is a vitamin to prevent white hair, i’ll be the first to buy it. I have too many sprouting from my head and i dont like it. I’m only in my thirties and i cant stand seeing those white hair. Friends my age dont have as much white hair as i do. My sis has a lot and i suspect it may even be genetic. So far, i’ve not come across any vitamins that claims to be able to prevent white hair at all, have you?

I believe stress plays a much larger role as far as getting white hair is concerned. Or maybe the lack of some vitamins and minerals also hastened the process. Some even say it can be due to prolonged breastfeeding but i’m not too sure about this. But, my hair tend to be drier now as i think i may be lacking in EFAs. Whatever it is, i know i need to rest more. Stress and long nights are a real killer. Sigh… anyone here knows where to buy vitamin to prevent white hair?

5 Natural Steps to Prevent Hair Loss

It is always easier to stop something ahead of time instead of waiting and stopping it after it has already happened. This is the same with preventing hair loss in comparison with waiting until you’ve already lost your hair and trying to re-grow it. Preventing hair loss can be done as early as age 18 or 20 and it is a wise decision especially if you have a family history of baldness or thin hair. The sooner you plan ahead the sooner you will see results and the less of a chance you will go bald in the future. No one wants to go bald and you don’t have to if you take the proper steps. Here are a few remedies and solutions to preventing hair loss to the best of your abilities.

1. Number One- Eat and drink biotin. Biotin is a very essential vitamin that will aid in hair growth and you can get this in foods such as honey, milk and bananas. A great, healthy and tasty way to get biotin is to make a blended shake with these ingredients and yogurt.

2. Number Two- Stop stress! Stress is one of the leaders for hair loss reasons and the least amount of stress you allow in your life the better for your hair. Get a stress ball, get a massage and do whatever you can to release all the stress from your life.

3. Number Three: Massage your scalp every time you shampoo your hair. Massaging your head in the shower not only cleanses your scalp but it also increases the blood flow and circulation within your head. This is even more important as you age because circulation slows down the older you get and you should keep circulation in mind.

4. Number Four: Sleep! Sleep cures a lot of problems and it is vital to keeping the entire body in sync and healthy. Your hair is only one of the things that will benefit from getting proper sleep (7 to 9 hours of sleep per night consistently).

5. Number Five: Get Vitamin B in your everyday foods and supplements. Vitamin B is one of the most essential vitamins you can get and Vitamin B6 a key to healthy hair. If you don’t feel that you are getting enough Vitamin B in your foods everyday then you should look into getting a good vitamin supplement to go with your daily regimen.

While baldness is largely a hereditary issue, that does not mean you can’t prevent it and fight against it. Once again, the best time to begin the hair loss prevention time is in your late teens to early 20s. Getting a head start on your hair loss potential is a good idea and will pay off in large ways as you get older and your hair thins out.

Does Omega 3 Help Your Hair

Omega 3 can help your hair several ways.

First, adding omega 3 fatty acids to your diet may be able to stop hair loss if you’ve already experienced some. Moreover, it also may be able to help initiate re-growth.

If you haven’t experienced hair loss yet (or even if you have), omega 3 fatty acids will add luster and sheen to your hair.

Omega 3 fats benefit much more than just hair health, however. These essential fatty acids are also vital for brain and heart health.

They may also help improve the glow of your skin and due to their anti-inflammatory properties can even benefit those suffering from acne blemishes.

Before you start including more omega 3 in your diet to help your hair, just remember that it’s not going to produce the same level of results as prescription treatments such as Rogaine™.

However, unlike prescription drug treatments, omega 3 fatty acids are essential to good health, so even if you opt for a prescription treatment for your hair, you should still add sources of omega 3 fats to your diet.

Some of the best sources are: fish like salmon, sardines, herring….or eggs and flaxseed.

And the best source of all is molecularly distilled fish oil supplements. Fish is by far the best natural source, but the problem with most fish is that they harbor contamination that builds up in the flesh due to pollution in the world’s oceans.

Molecularly distilled fish oil supplements have had the impurities separated through a scientific process, leaving only the beneficial life-enhancing oils.

So now that you know the answer to the question: does omega 3 help your hair, you need to educate yourself on how to choose a quality fish oil product from a subpar one.

Scalp acne

Are you one of those who suffers from scalp acne? I know how it feels like as i’ve been through it before. It’s annoying and sometimes, i scratched it in my sleep till it bleeds unknowingly. Bad huh. Scalp acne can be treated just like any other breakout. Acne develops when the hair follicle of the skin is plugged by sebum overproduction, dead cells and becomes infected with bacteria.

This in turn leads to swelling, redness and pain at the site of infection. Most of the time, they all result in small and itchy pustules that be noticed when you brush your hair. This can also spread easily with the presence of bacteria.

How do you treat scalp acne? Remember to always keep the hair clean at all times as too much oil on the scalp is really bad for this type of acne. Dopay your doctor or dermatologist if symptoms persists. A proper diet can help with this problem. Avoid esting too many fatty foods and sugary stuffs. Have a balanced diet of fresh fruits and vegetables. And do drink lots of water.

Are you afraid of head lice?

It’s common for schools, especially kindergartens, to conduct hair-checks on their student once in a while. This, according to them is to avoid other children from contracting head lice if another is found to have it. Anyone found to have head lice will be barred from coming to school untill they are treated. There are also many misinformation about head lice. Do you know of any? Here are just some of my findings:

1) They are harmless and do not spread diseases

2) They are not a sign of poor hygiene

3) They may be easy to catch, but also difficul to treat

4) They do crawl very quick, but certainly do not hop, jump nor fly

5) Can live up to 30 days on the scalp

6) Will die if away from the scalp for more than 2 days

7) Can also be found on bedding, carpet, old soft toys which are dirty and/or dusty

8) Cannot be prevented. Can only be treated when your child has the eggs or lice

Can i pluck my white hair?

I’ve always had this fear since i was young that if i pluck my white hair, another 3 will grow in its place, lol. I dont know who told me this. So, is it true? Will you pluck your white hair cause it looks out of place? I will, and i do that a lot :O

I have very thick and curly. And also a lot of white hair; most hidden by the bulk of my mane. But ifi were to lift it up section by section, i can see that i do indeed have quite a fair bit of whites amongst the black. White hair is a result of a mulfunction of melanocytes 9pigment-producing cells). It’s in no way associated with hair growth at all. Therefore, hairmyth debunked. Plucking a strand WILL NOT stimulate another 3 to grow in its place.
