Longterm exposure to loud music causes tumors

IPod, Zune and other music lovers better take note. Research has discovered that people with years of repeated exposure to loud noise have an increased risk of developing acoustic neuroma, a non-cancerous tumor that may lead to hearing loss. These people were 1.5 times more likely to develope this type of tumour compared to people who werent exposed to such noise on a regular basis.

Hearing loss occurs gradually as the tumour grows and presses the cranial nerve that is responsible for sensing sound and helping with balance. The highest risk of acoustic neuroma developmentwere exposure to machines, power tools and/or construction and exposure to loud music. The longer people are exposed to loud noise, the greater their chances for developing the tumour.
