It’s Monday again. The weekend came and went faster than i can recall what happened the past two days, lol. Oh, blame that on the weather. Or rather, the kids and i are under the weather again. This time, it’s none other than the ultimate package deal again. We’re all having sore throat, nasal congestion and cough again. The stifling heat during the day plus rain every now and then isnt doing anyone good. Most of my nieces and nephews are down with the common cold too. Oh, let’s just say every other person that i meet these days is done with the common cold too, especially young children.

My SIL dropped by on Sunday and told me to go visit an ent doctor. She took hers to one and after some medication, they are feeling better. In a way, i hate going to the doctor’s. I dont take medication, especially anti-biotics. My kids will hide under the bed the moment i take their medication out. So, what’s the point of visiting one, lol. Give it another week or so, we’ll all be well again. Let’s just give it some time. It’s just the common cold, nothing serious, ok. I just wish we’ll be okay by end of this week as hubby will be home. He’s back to celebrate my birthday together with the kids.

Talking of ent doctors. My ex-neighbor used to take her mom one last time. She’s very susceptible to ear, nose and throat infections. According to my ex-neighbor, her mom cannot sleep in an air-conditioned room as the cold temperature may worsen her infection. I guess most city folks will start leaving their hometowns soon. It’s already the fifth day of Chinese New Year, fast eh. Many of my friends have already left. During the same time last week, both hubby and i were still very busy helping his mom buy stuffs back. We even bought tow new huge red lanterns to hang at the porch. And also lots of Chinese New Year decorative items for the house. I even replaced the one on my bedroom door. Though the economy isnt showing any signs of becoming better, i’m sure if we are careful with our spending, we can brave through it all.

Some quick tips to survive the current economic downturn. Let’s start with food first. Remember to only buy what you need and check the expiry on every single food item to lessen wastage. If you can, buy in bulk on necessities to save on fuel and time needed to go to the stores. If possible, buy less clothing. Cut down on unnecessary expenses like cable tv and magazine/newspaper subscriptions. The internet has a lot of free entertainment to offer. Take your kids to the park instead of to the malls where there are lots of temptations. It’s good for them to run about and get lots of fresh air anyway. Healthy family = less trips to the doctor’s = safe more money.

There are some things that you should not skimp on. Do remember to pay all your utility bills on time to avoid being charged for reconnection fees. Make sure you check on your life insurance to see that you are adequately insured. You sure do not want to put your family through further financial difficulties should some unforeseen circumstances happen to you. New Year is a time when people tend to make new year resolutions. Many of them think that by making a few changes to their life, they will become a better person. Really? I dont fall into this category of people, so, i wont know. I’ve stopped making new year resolutions a long time ago as i dont need to keep reminding myself what i need to do all year round just so to proof to myself that i’m a better person. I’m a  self-driven individual who knows what i want out of life. As long as i dont procrastinate in all the things that i want to do, that’s good enough.

This year alone, many of my friends have vowed to do many things like quit smoking, stop drinking, get pregnant, get married, etc., etc., etc. But this is NOT the first time i hear them make all these new year resolutions. What’s the point of making them when they dont make it a point to follow through with them? And then, they will repeat the process next year. I bought a new Wii game for my kid recently. It’s some kinda fishing game. In a way, it’s quite like real fishing as you have to toss the WiiMote just like you would a real fishing rod. It’s fun to see how my kid laughs when he successfully catches a sea bass. Oh, there are many different kinds of fish for him to catch, and lots of locations too. From ponds to deep sea fishing.

My Grandpa loves to go fishing when he was young. He’s no longer with us but each time i go back to my Grandma’s house, i can still see his photographs lined up on the wall. My Grandma doesnt like to fish as she says the rocking motion makes her sick. So, my Grandpa only goes fishing with his friends.

According to him, it takes a lot of patience to fish. It’s therapeutic as he gets to relax his mind when he waits for fish to bite. I’ve not been to a fishing trip before but i do have friends who have. I wonder how my aunt’s condition is now. She was diagnosed with cancer a few months back. I havent called her up as my mom told me she only wants to rest and dont feel like talking at all. So, i only get updates about her condition from my mom. She’s undergoing chemo as far as i know. It’s her choice. We’ve told her to consider alternative therapies but if chemo is what she wants, then by all means go for it. It’s her body. But i know she’s suffering from the side effects now. I just hope she successful overcomes her cancer soon.

I got to know a few women who are also cancer survivors They are those that did not go for radiation nor chemotherapy, but opted for alternative healing methods instead.
