Vasectomy

Vasectomy is a surgical procedure that provides a permanent form of birth control for men. There are two tubes in the penis, known as vasa deferentia, which carry sperm from testicles to the seminal fluid. Under Vasectomy, these two tubes are severed and sealed. Once the surgical procedure is through, your semen will become sperm-free. It means now when you ejaculate during sexual intercourse with a woman, she will not get pregnant. The biggest problem with this method of birth control is that you cannot get it reversed. Therefore, you must understand it pros and cons before going for the same.

Is this method suitable for you?

In order to determine if this method is suitable for you, it is very important that both you and your partner agree to have a permanent form of birth control. There can be other reasons too, where vasectomy can make a good option. For example, the health condition of your partner has made pregnancy unsafe for her, or you and your partner are not comfortable to use other methods for birth control. On the other hand, there can be many factors that make vasectomy unsuitable for you. For example, if you are unsure about having children in the future, or you are single, divorced or separated. Also, many people think that they will get the vasectomy reversed when they want more children. Well, let me tell you frankly, vasectomy cannot be reversed by any means. Therefore, keeping in view all the things, you have to take your decision very carefully.

Result of Vasectomy

More than 99% cases of vasectomy are normally successful. That is the reason why it is considered as one of the most effective forms of birth control. However, you must keep in mind that after the surgery is done; you can have sex only after three days. Moreover, the sperm still remain in little quantity in the ducts leading to your penis, which flush out completely only after 20-25 ejaculations. Therefore, if you go for unprotected intercourse before that you may make your partner pregnant. The best way to deal with this situation is to use a back up method for birth control until you have a semen analysis. Meanwhile, you need to have two tests. Once the test confirms that there is no sperm in the ejaculation, the vasectomy can be safely relied upon for contraception.

Risks

Although 99% cases of vasectomy are successful but in rare cases it may cause certain complications also, such as infection in the incision site (causing redness and swelling), bleeding within the scrotum that may cause painful swelling, scrotal pain etc. However, all these complications can easily be treated. Just call, your doctor and they will suggest you some precautions and treatments. There are certain other signs and symptoms too, which require you to consult your doctor. Such things may include fever, swelling that worsens or does not go down, difficulty in urination, a marbled sized lump in your scrotum, etc.

Overall, vasectomy is certainly very effective form of birth control, but before you take a final decision, do keep in mind the above things.

How to regain pre-pregnancy figure

I just got back from the hospital. My sister was admitted two nights ago for some middle ear infection. She was complaining of feeling dizzy and had difficulty walking too. She asked me to bring along some magazines for her. I have no problem with that cos i buy tonnes of magazines every month. Just that, i have to get someone to look after my kids when i go there. I do not like to bring children to the hospital cos their immune system are still not strong enough. But then i noticed that many does that. They even bring their babies along too when they visit their sick relatives and friends. Dont they know their babies might fall ill if they contract some airborned virus there? And hospitals are full of them. How stupid can they be.

Anyway, i walked past the maternity floor and that reminded of the times when i had my babies. Time flies so fast. My baby is now 14 months old and can walk already. When i arrived at the ward, the doctor was inside my sister’s room. I went down to the cafeteria to get a drink and sat right behind a booth with two ladies chatting away. I overheard one of them telling the other that she is considering going for a liposuction or tummy tuck to make her flabby stomach look better. The other told her she wants to go for rhinoplasty to fix her flat nose. I didnt sit there long enough to hear how their conversation went and whether would they go for it or not. Me, i’m lucky that i regained my pre-pregnancy figure through breastfeeding and religious exercise. I eat good food and maintain a healthy diet of lots of fruits and vegetables. If you want to look good after the birth of your baby, i suggest you do the same too.

Be careful of what you drink during pregnancy

Tea, coffee, cola and other soft drinks contain caffeine which, taken in excess, can over-activate the central nervous system and increase your blood pressure. Studies suggest that four or more cups a day increase the chance of your baby having a low birth weight. Herbal teas are also not a good substitute. High doses of some herbs may have side effects such as diarrhoea and causes vomitting. Research has shown that herbal teas can even interact with your doctor’s medication. Opt for fruit teas instead. But do remember to brush your teeth after drinking fruit tea. They tend to be slightly acidic and may corrode your teeth.

Infertility specialist

Jennifer told me over the phone just now that she’s made an appointment to visit Dr. Randy Morris next week. Jennifer’s been married for 5 years already and still unable to get pregnant. She got married about the same time as i did and i now have 2 kids. Her biological clock is ticking away and she’s worried that it might endanger both mother and child if she were to conceive later.

She was referred to IVF1, an In Vitro Fertilization and PGD center located in Chicago and Naperville, Illinois. Infertility specialist, Dr. Randy Morris, is there to help couples like her understand and resolve their infertility problem. I hope to hear good news from her soon. I’ve tried for 7 years before i got pregnant with my first child. I can understand how anxious and frustrated one can get trying to get pregnant.

Back pain and pregnancy

Lower back pains can disrupt sleep patterns of pregnant women and they should seek relief from their doctors instead of self-medicating. A study by the department of obstetrics at Washington School of medicine found that almost 80% of women with sleep disturbances also had back pain. Only 8% without pain reported having sleeping problems.

But the researchers were more alarmed at the use of pain medication for backaches complaints. They saw a direct association between sleep deficiency and back pain. These results raise the question of whether or not the high incidence of pain medication use reflects a lack of education about potential risks of medications or the inability of the pregnant woman to cope with pain.

The researchers also found that pain inpreveious pregnancies may predict a high risk for backache in future pregnancies. So, remember, DONT pop a poinkiller when backache hits you. Speak to your doctor instead!!!

You have to know the best time to have SEX!!!! Try these techniques to determine if you’re fertile:

Chart your menstrual cycle: If your cycle is regular, your estimated date of ovulation is two weeks before your next period.

Record your waking temperature: Take your base temperature every morning before you get out of bed. When ovulation is taking place, your temperature will go up by about half a degree Celcius. As sson as THREE successively higer-than-average temperatures have been noted, ovulation has indeed taken place!!!

Check your cervical mucus: Best is a few days after your period. Check if it becomes slippery and stretchy, almost like a raw egg. That alone indicates that you’re most fertile.

Genistein effects on fertility

Are you planning to have a baby? Then you’ve better ask him to stay clear of soy products. According to british scientists from the King’s College in London, a diet high in plant-based protein such as soya beans, legumes and tofu doesnt help with fertility. This is because of a plant chemical called genistein that could damage sperm and impair fertility levels in men.

Genistein cells emulate the effects of the female hormone estrogen, causing the male sperm to lose more than three time the acosomes - caps needed to fertilise the egg. The study also revealed that sperm can suffer a burnout within an hour of being exposed to even a small amount of genistein. Though the findings are still in its early stages, researchers say it’s still best for him to go easy on genistein-packed foods.

Egg talk

if you’re by any chance suffering from performance anxiety in the bedroom, then it’s time you try a serving of eggs to help keep energy levels up and also to calm down your nerves. According to the director of the US-based Neutraceutical Institute at Rutgers University, when feeling anxious, jittery or stressed, your body exhausts vitamin B - a key nutrient for keeping your sex drive roaring.

Scrambled, poached or hard-boiled eggs are good sources of B vitamins. It’ll help keep your mind calm, reducing performance anxiety. Of course, you must get carried away though. Remember to keep your eggs consumption to less than 5 servings a week
