Death of the common spoon

Or shall i say death of the common sense. It irks me to see that many household do not have this health practice in place. And this includes mine. I’ve tried on many occasions to place a common spoon to every dish that’s served. Too bad they are ignored most of the time and i see their chopsticks and other utensil picking at the food without a thought for others. This is one of the most common way to contract diseases. Too bad everyone thinks it’s fine to share theirs around. This is just one of the reasons i seldom eat at home. If you are still not using a common spoon at home, you may want to start this healthy practice starting NOW!!!

How to clean vases naturally

My mother-in-law loves to place flowers around the house. She has a few vases on the family altar too. I noticed they are stained and she told me there’s no way she can get the stains out. She even complains that they have an awful smell too. An easy way to get rid of both the stains and smell is to rub a mixture salt and vinegar all over it. They’ll look as good as new in no time and you can then proudly display your favorite blooms in them again.

Get it out with extra virgin coconut oil

A friend of mine is so badly constipated. She called me up yesterday asking for help. She’s been to many doctors who does nothing much except to tell her to drink more water and eat a diet of more fruits and vegetables. That’s true, of course. But she needs a quick remedy and do not want to take those laxatives they prescribed her with. I told her to go to the nearest health store and buy a bottle of extra virgin coconut oil. She’s to take a teaspoon of it three times a day. She called to let me know it’s all out now, lol. Glad to hear that. So, this works, k.

Potpourri – Easily available and one of the most economical way to freshen up any room. Looks great as a decorative item too.

Scented candles – This is another favorite way of mine to keep my place smelling good all the time. Be careful with it though if you have kids or pets around. Place it at a higher place to avoid unnecessary accidents.

Cleaning – Keep your living area clean at all times to reduce smell from building up on fabric or curtains. Vacuum your carpet everyday. Having less airborned particulate matters is definitely healthier.

Incense – It’s a new trend these days to have incense sticks immersed in perfume oils. The lingering smell lasts a long time too. The oils are not easily available and can be expensive too.

Ionizer – This must be the most expensive way to keep your living area fresh. It also helps by removing odor and keep your air free of molds, dust and other harm microorganisms.

Organic Selenium?

You can see it printed on the box. It’s definitely not organic eggs, k. It’s all a marketing hype. What they are claiming is they feed those hens with organic selenium to produce eggs with organic selenium content. They did not indicate what kind of selenium is being fed to the chicks. This is just a common exploitation of the word “organic”. So, dont be fooled ya. It’s not organic unless it is “Certified Organic”.

What to look for in healthy breads

Most commercially available breads in the market are highly refines. All the original nutrients are stripped from enriched breads and replaced with inferior and often lesser quantities of standard vitamins and minerals. And dont get fooled by those companies that sprinkle a few grains on top of the bread and call them wholesome. You can see them at the stores Learn to look at the ingredient list before you buy.

If the first ingredient on the list says enriched instead of wholegrain, then it goes back to the shelf. And do take note of sweeteners. Natural sweeteners are molasses or honey are much better than fructose corn syrup. If you are one of those who just cant live without bread, then get yours from bakeries that do not use preservatives or additives. I get my supplies from the organic store. I’m lucky cos the shopowner makes wonderful healthy ones.

Can i lose weight by walking?

Of course you can, and it’s easier on your knees and joints too!!! But the trick is to walk really slowly, no huffing, no puffing. Walk for at least half an hour for good effect. 40 – 90 minutes would be best. But dont get too adventurous when you begin this new routine. If you feel tired after 30 minutes, then it should be enough.

Remember, walking is a low impact exercise that you can do everyday. Use a pedometer to help you see how much or how far you walk everyday. Couple that with a good diet, you should start seeing results almost immediately. Have fun!!!!!!!

Tips for preparing healthy meals

Remember this important tip. Use less oil when you cook using the frying pan. A simple way to maintaining a healthy diet is to control you intake of fat, sugar and salt. Try starting your day with a wholesome meal of porridge, oatmeal or breakfast cereal with skimmed or lowfat milk.

Eat more fish as they are loaded with Omega-3 fatty acids. Ensure that your rice intake is about 1/3 of your plate. Too much carb can be fattening. Do season your food using herbs like cinnamon, nutmeg or try adding lemon juice to it. My all-time favorite is tomato paste or puree. And also, drink lots of fluid daily to keep your body well hydrated.

Cant sleep

Cant sleep? Go get yourself a glass of milk. Mlik contains the amino acid tryptophan, which can help you sleep netter. If you do not like dairy products, perhaps make yourself a cup of soothing lavender tea. Lavender flowers can be easily purchased from health stores and tea galleries. Both works for me.

Do keep your sleeping environment quiet, or play some soothing music in the background to relax the mind. Forget the sheep counting method. It only frustrates you more when you miss a count or think you missed a count, lol. And also, do make sure the color of your bedroom is calming enough. White and beiges are sure-wins. Good night.
